This week, since we are having a burst of warm weather before more snow moves in tomorrow, we decided to go to the Cripple Creek Ice Festival.
The festival takes place in a former gold rush town in the mountains. It was great to look at the old buildings, as well as take in the beautiful ice carvings. The carvers start with 160 pounds of ice and create AMAZING things. Since it was warmer than normal, the poor sculptors were spending a lot of time repairing previous creations rather than making new pieces.
This year's theme was Greek Mythology. This carver is working on Apollo in his chariot but he and his fellow sculptors also made Zeus, Pegasus, a cyclops, a winged victory and even a ice maze and slide for the kids to run through.
It was a wonderful day (though a little chilly)

ReplyDeleteThanks for choosing my card for the Grand Prize, I greatly appreciate it. Wonderful samples from the talented DT. Great pictures from Colorado - my driveway is full of ice, but nothing like that. I agree it is amazing what people can do with it and I just hope I don't fall.

ReplyDeleteHi everyone from a very warm sunny New Zealand. We can hardly get any rain let alone snow or ice. It was meant to have rained the other day and we are still waiting our beautiful green lawn looks like a desert very brown. Congratulations to Lisa and our Top 3 cards awesome work ladies there were so many lovely cards this week. Thank you Sally-Ann for being our wonderful monthly sponsor which we really appreciate and we love working with your fun images. Thanks to Joanna for your wonderful posting and photo's I would have loved to have visited Cripple Creek Ice Festival and seen those Ice Carvings they are totally amazing. There is so much talent and architecture and design put into these carvings and it all melts with away and nothing to show for it. These carvers are so talented. Take care everyone and I'm really looking forward in seeing your cards this week with this very old sketch.
